3 alternative pubs that combine fun and culture in Malaga
Leisure plans are cool. Cultural plans are cool. But when you combine fun and knowledge you get what is probably the best plan in the universe to enjoy Malaga. Which leads us to declare our unconditional love for cultural pubs, where you can have a few beers, put the world to rights with friends, see an exhibition that blows your mind or vibrate to the latest from that indie band that doesn’t play on Instagram reels (but you’ll never forget). Today we bring you our personal choice of 3 alternative bars in Malaga where drinks, atmosphere and cultural plans go hand in hand.
1. Velvet Club
Right in the centre of Malaga, this former concert hall converted into a pub offers the best of rock, flamenco, funk, indie or reggae with live music concerts, as well as cultural events of all kinds, with exhibitions, book presentations and even theatre. A space with a history that gives priority to local artists and where you can breathe an authentic and different atmosphere.

2. La polivalente
The name is fitting, as this place in Lagunillas pays tribute to culture in all its forms and variants. Its owners define it as a place for local artists and visitors to meet and exchange ideas. With a fixed programme from Monday to Thursday (Mondays, improvisation theatre; Tuesdays and Thursdays, jazz; Wednesdays, Brazilian night), they leave the weekend open for all kinds of musical events (rap, Cuban music, reggae). Other cultural activities include screenings, performances and workshops ranging from graffiti to medicinal plants.

3. The Shakespeare
Yes, it’s great to have a bit of culture every now and then, but if you’re one of those people who won’t give up good beer, The Shakespeare is the bar for you. An English pub with shooters and sports broadcasts (so far so normal) that stands out for its cultural activities, such as open mic sessions or trivia nights. Leisure and knowledge: the perfect combination to enjoy a different plan in Malaga, don’t you think?
