3 summer exhibitions for a cultural bath in Alicante
Not everything is going to be coves, festivals and excursions. When the heat presses, nothing like a cultural plan to feed the brain (and enjoy the air conditioning of the museums, by the way). If you are looking for exhibitions worth visiting in Alicante, here we bring you three varied and multidisciplinary exhibitions that will leave you with a lot to tell this summer. Let’s get started!
1. ‘Diversity Illustrated: Instagram as a loudspeaker’ (Las Cigarreras)
Much is said about the negative effects of social networks on mental health, but on this occasion, the exhibition Diversity Illustrated: Instagram as a loudspeaker, on display at Las Cigarreras until July 15, aims to extol the diversity that these platforms promote. And they do it through illustrations that vindicate affective-sexual and gender freedom, with works by Yaiza Rojas, Jaime Hayde, Alonso Mena or Cachorro Lozano.
2. ‘Art with neurons’ (La Lonja del Pescado)
Pierre d’Argyel reflects in this exhibition on the work of Pablo Picasso from a neurological point of view. The aim of Art with neurons, which can be visited in the exhibition hall of La Lonja del Pescado until October 2023, is to investigate the functioning of the brain in the artistic creation of the painter from Malaga. Just for the author’s tribute to Guernica -with a work that shows a huge brain in which characters from the painting appear, such as the bull, the horse or the mother with the child-, this exhibition is worth seeing. Admission is free.
3. ‘Housemates’(MUA)
In this different proposal of the University Museum of Alicante, the students of the Master in Project and Research of the UMH have created a sort of shared apartment in which the different “rooms” are filled with personal objects, drawings, sculptures, installations, videos and all kinds of artistic media to reflect on coexistence and diversity. A very interesting vision that delves into what it means to share housing (and life).
