4 excursions near Valencia for a change of scenery and to cool off
Every time you plan an outing in summer, the temptation to stay at home watching Netflix with the air conditioning is real. But what if we suggest fun, relaxing and, above all, cool getaways near the city? Reconciling with summer is a piece of cake with these 4 refreshing and different excursions in Valencia. Nature, water and shade, what more could you ask for in a summer plan?
1. Caves of San José (Vall d’Uixó)
A boat route through the longest navigable subway river in Europe. In this network of natural caves the water flows relentlessly through the walls and stalactites and the temperature is constant, at a blessed 20ºC all year round. In this different and relaxing excursion you will feel like you are on another planet navigating in the depths of the earth. The trip is about 800 meters by boat and 250 meters on foot, and lasts 40 minutes. This natural attraction is located in Vall D’Uixó, in the province of Castellón, just 45 minutes from Valencia.
2. La Cabrentà (Estubeny)
This vast natural area of 1.4 hectares that opens up in the valley of the river Sellent, is one of the few examples of Mediterranean rainforest in the Valencia Region. Its humid microclimate has led to a very rich biodiversity, with very diverse and valuable flora and fauna. The route, of about 2.5 km and easy difficulty, runs in the shade of lush vegetation, with the murmur of the river water in the background. The route begins in Estubeny, a small village of just over 100 inhabitants where you can recharge your batteries with a delicious baked rice in the only bar that exists. You get there in 50 minutes from Valencia.
3. Ruta del agua (water route) (Chelva)
What is it about the sound of water that is so relaxing? In this circular route of low difficulty you will be accompanied at all times by springs, fountains and the river Chelva. Two hours of route enlivened with the Molino Puerto rest area, with picnic tables, paella and sports facilities). It is essential to stop at La Playeta to enjoy an idyllic bath under the waterfalls. Only 55 minutes from the capital.
4. Covetes dels Moros (Bocairent)
This plan is not suitable for claustrophobics. And it is that this route of one hour of duration runs through a long gallery of intercommunicated caves excavated in the mountain. Much of the route is done on all fours due to the limited space of these small artificial dwellings, former granaries of the Andalusian period. If you dare to take a look through one of the windows, you will see a stunning panoramic view of the old town of Bocairent, the cliff and the Sierra. If you have time to spare, be sure to visit the Cava de Sant Blai, included in the price of admission to the caves. It is a huge old icehouse that was used to store snow from the villages in the area. And, yes, you can still feel the coolness.
