1. Dulce de Leche Jesús
Recently expanded, Dulce de Leche Jesús is the holy grail of Valencian snack bars. It was in 2003 when its founder, Elisabet, opened her first shop in the city after arriving from her native Argentina. Today, its roots can be tasted, not only in the name, but also in the alfajores de maicena, the empanadas criollas and any of the pastries and cakes filled with dulce de leche. They have their own bakery, where they make their pastries and cakes without using additives or preservatives. The premises, spacious, bright and full of plants (and even a tree!) is perfect to treat yourself to a snack or at any time of the day. Don’t forget the coffee, it’s one of the best in Valencia!

Its cosy and detailed décor adds an extra touch to any of its delicious snack options, such as sweet and savoury croissants, cakes, cookies and tarts (OMG the lemon and meringue one). Check out their smoothies and, why not, their healthy options. With the vegan oatmeal pancakes you won’t miss the traditional ones, word! 3. Horchatería Santa Catalina
It is impossible to talk about Valencian snacks without mentioning horchata. And when it comes to horchata, you haven’t tried one as tasty as Santa Catalina. This historic establishment, with its tiled walls, has been serving the traditional tigernut drink for more than two centuries, along with the best homemade fartons. In winter, the hot chocolate with churros is a sure hit. And if horchata is not your thing, you can choose from a wide variety of pastries, ice creams, milkshakes and coffees. As for the atmosphere, it’s usually busy and lively. If you’re in the city centre for a snack, Santa Catalina is an almost obligatory stop.
