The best popular festivals in the neighborhoods of Barcelona for this summer
For many, summer is synonymous with village festivals. If you don’t have one, don’t worry, you can still enjoy the magic, tradition and brotherhood of popular festivities without leaving the city. We will always have the neighborhoods, where year after year the Festes Majors (major festivities) of the different districts of Barcelona survive. Music, culture, street decoration and that untranslatable concept that we love so much: the sobaquillo dinners. Take note of these popular summer festivals that promise to fill the streets of the city with amazing plans.
1. Festes Majors de Gràcia
From August 15 to 21 you have an appointment in the central neighborhood of Gràcia, one of the most popular and cosmopolitan of the city. Despite this, tradition will prevail these days, with its usual street ornamentation contest and the mythical Plaça del Folk, a space for activities that will revolve around traditional music. This year, in addition, guided tours will be organized to the neighborhood’s air raid shelter for 3€.
2. Festes Majors de Sants
Towards the end of the Gràcia festival, the Sants festival will begin, from August 19 to 21. On the first day, the group Companyia Elèctrica Dharma will give the traditional proclamation. The festivities of the popular neighborhood in the south of Barcelona stand out for its decorated streets, concerts, shows and activities, also for children. On the 24th, in addition, the floral offering to Sant Bartomeu is organized. Oh, and don’t miss the performances that the castellers of Sants, known as borinots, will offer throughout the week.
3. Festes Majors d’Horta
In September, the party continues in the neighborhood of Horta, an area of Barcelona that still retains that authentic village spirit. During the festivities, parades, correfocs and all kinds of cultural activities and musical shows will be organized.
