Fire, art and magic: everything you need to know about the Bonfires of Alicante is in this museum
The Alicante “Hogueras” (Fogueres in Valencian) is the city’s official and most important festival, declared an Intangible Cultural Asset. Whether you want to learn more about this curious local tradition or if this is your first contact with it and you want to find out what it consists of, a necessary stop is the Museu de Fogueres de Alicante. Here you will find all the details about the history and evolution of this festivity, and you can see the “ninots” pardoned each year (the ones that are saved from the fire), models of bonfires, typical costumes, photographs, sketches and posters.
In the audiovisual room, the museum offers a sensory experience in which, through image and sound, you will be transported to a typical Hogueras day, between firework displays, the “cremà” or the “banyà” (a tradition in which the firemen refresh the people who attend the burning of the monuments with water from their hoses). The Bonfires Museum can be visited free of charge from Tuesday to Sunday.
