Júzcar: the blue-painted village that pays homage to the Smurfs
There is no doubt that millennial nostalgia is in fashion, and if you remember Gargamel, Papa Smurf and Smurfette, you’re going to love this. Did you know that in the province of Malaga hides a village completely painted blue and full of murals, figures and references to the mythical characters? We’re talking about Júzcar, a small town located in the Genal Valley, two hours from the city, which back in 2011 was chosen by Sony to theme its streets in a “Smurf” style to coincide with the premiere of the film The Smurfs 3D. The result? Façades painted blue (more than 9,000 kilos of paint were needed), figures, graffiti and a common thread that even extends to the dishes in some restaurants. But this curious place, which receives more than 40,000 thousand tourists a year, offers much more: adventure sports, such as canyoning or zip-lining, hiking routes with incredible views of the valley and delicious gastronomy.
